United Poets Laureate International (U.P.L.I.) is the parent organization of the World Congress of Poets (WCP). Every two years, a World Congress of Poets is held by a President who has been elected by the UPLI Board of Directors.

My mom had an old wringer washer.
Stopping the agitator
she'd feed the clothes, one at a time
through the wringer,
squeezing suds from the cloth
letting them fall into fresh rinse water.
Turning the arm she would again
feed the cloth through the wringer,
letting them fall into the laundry basket.
The basket was my job.
Picking up the wet, heavy clothes
I would lug the basket to the backyard
where mom would hang them on the line.
Saturday was wash day.
Monday was trash burn day.
Can't burn trash with clothes on the line.
Had to be careful when burning,
put a mesh screen on top,
can't let embers blow around.
My younger sister, there in pigtails
never had to lug that basket out.
Wasn't fair, and it made me mad.
But not anymore.
The girl in white was her best friend.
She doesn't like me much.
I was burning trash,
my sister was bugging me.
Tried to hit her, but stumbled
knocked over the barrel.
Caught underneath, her dress flared up.
She died the next day.
