Poetry is not all beauty, nature and love. Poets at different times had influenced the populace and the rulers.

Poets do have a social responsibility.Modern poets should launch a campaign against war, corruption, abuse of women and children etc, which are so common nowadays.

Hi Koyal ! Nice to see you in this site. I'm happy atlast you responded to my topic. I have been always aiming at this in my writings; many of which you already read. I wish more and more poets come to agree with us.
Thank you so much.

Koyel, for sure I agree with you not only because I put society as a first priority since we are living in. I'm that the honest and faithful poet can change, correct and advise through his/her poetic lines explaining the pure ideas and reaching the right goals.

Poets as writers are responsible to effectively share in improving our life in all ways.

This is in reply to some of my friends, who doubt about the reach of poetry in society. Yeah! I agree that readers of poetry nowadays are very few, amongst them fewer get inspired by our poetry. But friends, be not skeptic. Whatever that is read is registered in mind and it works, it works when time arises. Even few minds changed can change the whole world, sooner or later. Changed mind change the world.

Dear Sathya :
Your basic question is so general in nature that the only answer to it is , "Of course . "
But if I may , I believe that what you really want to know is , "Do poets have a special social
responsibility ?"
In answer to this , I must say that I do not believe that this special social responsibility
is inherent in the fact that someone writes poetry . Many poets do not address the many public
social problems that are present in society . And I , for one , am not ready to condemn them for
not addressing these issues . Poets do have a special voice on social issues and in a perfect world
all poets would use that public voice for that purpose . But we do not live in a perfect world . I
believe , that above all other things , a poet must follow his or her own heart and conscience .
If it leads them to speak out , then all the better . But if it does not , I do not believe that other
poets have the charter to condemn them for their silence . Such condemnation is reserved for the
ultimate judge of all things . "Judge not , lest ye be judged ."

Well said Greenwolfe 1962... I must agree with you.

Writing poetry by no means is meant to stagnate someone to the whims and fancies of the deplorable states of society. However, poetry can serve as an inspiration and a means of bringing to light the numerous social injustices of a country, or society itself.
So in a sense, poets do have a responsibilty to move people and hopefully awake in them some passion and reason.

Dear Sirs,
When I say poets have social responsibility; it means two things. From positive side, poets can influence the society with his positive views, those that can correct the maladies of the society. From negative side; poets must avoid writing obsene poetry. A perfect society doesnot need a poet or a writer's interference. Only when the society is in doldrums it needs correction; to whatever extent a poet can do. Nerudo did it. We have poets in India who did and are doing great service to the society.

Yes, off course poets have social responsibility but I think nobody should write poems "only" for the sake of this responsibility.. Inspirations and feelings are rather subjective facts; and has a direct relation with your own blood; to be able to write real good poems you need to feel this current (blood movement) in your heart and brain..
