Thanks a lot to e magazines and tender hearts that patronize poetry. Every publisher says that there is no money in poetry. Poetry makes heart tender or humane. and i wish and hope that poetry echoes peace. Poetry may preserve morals ethics in this world . Wars and suicides and suicidebombers etc can be put out by Poetry
As Roxy says , "Poetry is an art ." But it is also a craft . It is perfectly true that there is no money in this
craft . But the products of this craft are very useful as tools to use against the tyrannies and oppressions
of the world . And to help reveal the pain and suffering of those whose afflictions cannot be seen by the naked
eye . And as well to help reveal the beauty of God's creations and the hidden truths that mankind forgets from
time to time . So poetry can do many things to serve the better aspects of human nature . But as a craft and a
tool , it must be created and used in a manner and means by which all of mankind can make full use of it .
Therefore , since as a tool it is basically a form of communication , It is incumbent on each craftsman and artist who might wish to create their poems for the betterment of mankind ; that they do so with the full
knowledge that their primary objective is to communicate . Any creation of poetry that fails in this most
basic of all functions is an art serving no purpose and a tool of no value . So while a poet as artist
is a fine thing , to fulfill the broader purpose as stated here , the artist must check his or her most
creative impulses toward the abstract , and rely instead on the more direct transmission of meaning
so that the greatest numbers of mankind may be served .
I agree with you Gopi and Nagasuseela. Poetry can kindle a wild fire and put off a razing inferno. But, unfortunately, many, even poets are trying to underestimate the power of poetry. We know the influence wielded by Pablo Neruda on Spanish revolution. We have our own Gaddar of India and Srisri our favourite poet. Let us propegate the importance of poetry and let people realize it.
I wish to add a little more to conclude. Poetry is an ever-lasting wealth of the world and an ever-fragrant rose that keeps on diffusing its sweet scents generation after generation to blossom all those flinched minds. Kudos to you both for raising this wonderful isssue for discusssion.
